This is the biggest update we’ve ever shipped. Not by a little. Two new production tools, a rebuilt script editor, and CineLog now runs in your browser. Let’s go through it.
CineLog runs in your browser now
Go to app.cinelog.com, sign in, and your projects open right there. No install, no app store. It’s the same CineLog, synced with your desktop and mobile devices, so you can sit down at any computer and keep working. If you’ve been waiting to try CineLog without installing anything, this is your moment.
Script Breakdown
You’ve been asking for it and it’s here! Breakdown is a new tool for marking up your script the way you would with colored pencils on paper. Select a word in the script, tag it, and it lands in your breakdown as an element. It can be a prop, it can be wardrobe, it can be a vehicle, it can be a sound. There are twelve standard production categories, the same ones crews have marked with colored pencils for decades. CineLog picks up speaking characters on its own, and you fine-tune the rest by hand.
And here’s the part we’re really proud of. When you tag a character, they become cast. That cast flows into your shot list, fills your schedule strips, and builds the cast grid in your call sheets. You tag once, and it shows up everywhere.
Breakdown works on your phone too, with a layout built for small screens. And you can export breakdown sheets as PDF.
Schedule
The stripboard is here! Build shooting days, drag scene strips between them, and reorder your day the way ADs have done it for decades. You can split a scene into parts and shoot them on different days, because that’s how real productions work. Cast and locations sit right on the strips, and a finished day flows straight into its call sheet. When you’re done, export the whole board as a PDF.
Script lock and revisions
When you move into production, you can now lock your script. Locked pages keep their numbers, new material goes to A-pages, revised lines get stars, and every revision round gets its own page color, just like paper revisions on set. You can omit a scene without renumbering everything after it. Your script stays stable while production works from it, and your writers keep writing.
The editor shows real pages
We rebuilt the editor’s layout engine from scratch. You now write on true US Letter pages with industry-standard margins, 12 point Courier, six lines per inch. The page break you see in the editor is the page break in your PDF. Long action and dialogue split across pages with (MORE) and (CONT’D), and element spacing follows the industry standard, so your page count finally means what it says.
The title page is editable right in the editor now. And zoom got smarter. Pinch, Ctrl or Cmd scroll, or use the stepper, and text stays sharp at every level because lines never rewrap.
Import review
Importing a script into an existing project used to be a leap of faith. Not anymore. When you import a Fountain or FDX file, CineLog shows you every change first. Added lines, removed lines, changed words. You pick what comes in and apply. If your script is locked, anything touching locked pages starts unresolved, so you decide before it lands.
Updates and improvements
- The Preview screen is gone. The Export button takes you straight to the format picker, and the PDF you export matches the editor page for page. Fountain, FDX, and plain text export got reworked too.
- You can create custom crew roles for your workspace.
- Locations are saved per project now, with address, parking, and nearest hospital, and they show up on your schedule and call sheets.
- You can pick the date format CineLog uses for dates like call sheet days.
- The script editor works on phones now, with page breaks and a title page made for the small screen.
- Help moved out of the More menu and into the sidebar, so it’s one click away.
- And over 20 bug fixes across the app.
